From the Alphalearn Portal, admins centrally control the AI tutor and its knowledge sources. Content can be maintained, adjusted, and assigned per course. All changes take effect in real time in your connected ILIAS installation.

How to add the AI tutor to ILIAS 11

The ILIAS plugin is built for ILIAS 11 and tested with ILIAS 11.4. It requires the PHP version of ILIAS 11 (PHP 8.3 or 8.4) and, like ILIAS itself, is licensed under GPL-3.0 – the source code is publicly available on GitHub.

Add the files

The plugin has two parts: AlphabeesTutor (UI hook, shows the chat in courses) and AlphabeesTutorSync (cron hook, synchronises in the background). Both go into the plugin directory under Customizing.

Run the ILIAS build

Then refresh the autoloader with composer dump-autoload and run php cli/setup.php build – just like for other ILIAS 11 plugins.

Activate

Install and activate both plugins in ILIAS administration.

Connect

In the plugin configuration, enter the connection code from the ILIAS integrations section of your Alphalearn Portal. Then assign tutors and knowledge sources to your courses in the portal.

Background synchronisation

Background jobs regularly sync course structure and memberships with the Alphalearn Portal. Changes to tutors and knowledge sources take effect in the connected ILIAS installation.

Signed communication

All calls between ILIAS and Alphalearn are verified with Ed25519 signatures. On page load the plugin renders locally, without external calls.

Full control

If you disconnect, the stored access data is deleted while assignments are kept. Alphalearn is hosted in Germany, with a data processing agreement for every customer.
